Federal Character Commission (FCC), insisted that there is no ‘Body of Commissioners’ or division within its management.
The commission also noted that various Committees had been engaging their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in interactive meetings and monitoring of recruitment and promotion exercises being conducted by the MDAs.
The Director of Public Affairs and Communications, Dr. Chuks Okoli, made this known, in a statement reacting to a Daily Trust report on the job racketeering and corruption allegations in the commission.
Okoli said: “We wish to state that there is no Association or group called “Body of Commissioners” in the Federal Character Commission. The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a publication in the Daily Trust Newspaper of Monday, December 18, 2023 on the above subject matter purportedly written by “Body of Commissioners”.
“For over three years as alleged by these five aggrieved Commissioners who have found it difficult to adapt to the transparent style of leadership of the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, many steps have been taken to make them see reasons but all to no avail.
“We wish to emphasize that various governmental organs namely; Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Federal Character, office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and some well meaning Nigerians had invited the aggrieved members of the Commission to round table discussions where they tabled their grievances.”
He explained that the secretary to the government of the federation, Distinguished Senator, Dr. George Akume during his intervention appealed to the commissioners and the executive chairman to go back and work together peacefully, and aggrieved Commissioners have retraced their steps and joined the Chairman in her determination to move the Commission forward.
He urged the general public to disregard any claim or action by the purported “Body of Commissioners” as it does not have any legal backing or recognition by the Federal Character Commission.
The FCC Chairman, Dr Muheeba Dankaka, while speaking at the commission’s second maiden award ceremony, stressed that the Commission operates within the ambit of the law, following due process and transparency in all its activities.
The Chairman emphasized the importance of adherence to the principles of federal character in the appointment and promotion of personnel in all government establishments.
She called on all stakeholders to support and cooperate with the commission in ensuring fairness and equity in the distribution of positions and opportunities across all Federal Government ministries, departments, and agencies.
Recently, the Federal Commissioner representing Abia State in the commission, Hon Henry Ogbulogo, said that the Federal Character Commission remains committed to promoting national unity and integration by ensuring that there is no marginalization or exclusion of any section of the country in the process of appointments, employment, and promotions in the public service.
He further assures the public that the commission will continue to discharge its responsibilities diligently, professionally, and in accordance with the law to achieve its mandate of promoting national integration, unity, and equity in government employment and representation.
