
The 19 Northern governors have donated N1 billion to Jigawa State to support victims of the tragic fire accident in Majiya, Taura Local Government Area (LGA) in Jigawa State.
The Guardian reports that the Kano had earlier also provided an additional N100 million in aid.
The Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum (NGF)and Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, made the announcement during a condolence visit to Jigawa State governor, Malam Umar Namadi at Government House, Dutse.
Yahaya was accompanied by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, and the Deputy Governors of Borno, Yobe, Katsina, Kebbi, and Taraba States.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Jigawa Governor, Hamisu Gumel, confirmed the donations in a statement. Additionally, 18 unnamed states contributed N50 million each towards relief efforts for the victims.
The fire incident occurred late Tuesday night when a petrol tanker, en route to Yobe State, crashed in Majiya. Residents from Majiya and nearby villages rushed to siphon fuel from the tanker, but a fire broke out, resulting in a devastating tragedy.

Over 147 people lost their lives in the blaze, while more than 300 individuals are currently receiving treatment in hospitals.
