The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command, has cautioned its armed personnel against the misuse of firearms and negligence in the discharge of their duties.

State Commandant Remilekun Ekundayo issued the warning yesterday at a general meeting of the Armed Squad Unit held at the Command Headquarters Conference Hall in Abeokuta. She was represented by the Deputy Commandant, Rafiu Popoola.

Ekundayo urged officers to remain disciplined, vigilant, and professional, especially in the face of the prevailing security challenges across the country. She stressed that failure to handle firearms responsibly or neglect of duty would attract stiffer disciplinary measures.

The commandant reminded senior officers, supervisors, and team leaders stationed at various critical national assets and infrastructure in the state of the dangers of negligence, citing the recent loss of personnel in Edo State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

She emphasised strict adherence to the rules of engagement and urged personnel to remain resolute and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in their assignments. Ekundayo also commended the leadership of the Armed Squad Unit for its commitment to sustaining peace and security in the state.

According to her, armed personnel would continue to undergo regular retraining programmes designed to boost both physical and mental preparedness for modern security challenges.

Highlights of the meeting included discussions on proper handover and takeover procedures, operational effectiveness, safe weapon handling, avoidance of distractions, respect for human rights, esprit de corps, and confidentiality in operations.
