The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, Mr. Isidore Chikere, has pledged to work diligently towards improving security around the Anambra International Cargo Airport.

Chikere disclosed this when he received the state Commissioner for Transport, Mrs. Patricia Igwebuike, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport (AICPA), Mr. Martins Nwafor, who visited his office, yesterday, at the State Command Headquarters, Awka.

Chikere, who assured to collaborate with other security agencies towards maintaining adequate security in the airport, especially for all users, insisted that the protection of critical assets and infrastructure is vital to the existence of every nation globally, and emphasised on the urgent need to safeguard these assets.

According to him, security is a collective responsibility requiring stakeholders to work closely, adding: “Considering the critical nature of the airport, there is need to close all gaps without giving room for security lapses around the facility.

“NSCDC, as a lead agency statutorily responsible for protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, will sustain the existing level of security alertness at the airport.

“The critical nature of these assets and infrastructure underscores the need to conduct periodic reviews, and risk assessments to ensure their protection and resilience.”

Earlier in his speech, Martins said he embarked on the visit to thank the Command for providing its services to the airport, and to brainstorm on proactive measures and initiatives to improve on the existing security arrangements at the airport.

Igwebuike commended NSCDC for its role at the airport since its establishment, and pledged to collaborate more with the Corps to sustain the level of security required at the airport.
