NSE’s market capitalisation rises by N224 billion

Gains outweighed losses on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday, as most blue chip companies appreciated in price, causing market capitalisation to rise by N224 billion.

Gains outweighed losses on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday, as most blue chip companies appreciated in price, causing market capitalisation to rise by N224 billion.

Also yesterday, 37 stocks appreciated while 10 constituted the losers’ chart.

Specifically, market capitalisation of listed equities rose to N10.105 trillion from N9.881 trillion traded on Monday.

Also the NSE All Share Index took upwards trend, adding 652.81 basis points or 2.27 per cent to 29422.71 from 28769.90 points recorded the previous day.  On the activity chart, Nestle Nigeria Plc led the gainers’ chart with N21.12 kobo to close at N816.00 per share.

Dangote Cement followed with a gain of N5.01 kobo to close at N185.00 per share.

Guinness Nigeria increased by N4.10 kobo to close at N104.00 per share. Lafarge Wapco rose by N2.9 kobo to end trading at N77.90 per share.

Total Nigeria advanced N12.30 kobo to close at N179.30 per share. GlaxoSmithKline added 1.53 kobo to close at N16.53 per share. Nigerian Breweries gained 1.07 kobo to close at N142.49 per share.

Zenith Bank garnered 0.73 kobo to close at N16.69 per share. Guaranty Trust Bank also added 0.67 kobo to close at N22.05 per share.

However, Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) topped the losers’ chart, shedding 0.14 kobo to close at N1.43 per share. Caverton trailed with a loss of N0.06 kobo to close at N1.40 per share.

Honeywell Flourmills fell by N0.06 to close at N1.83 per share. Unity Bank decreased by N0.05 kobo to close at N1.12. NEM Insurance lost N0.05 kobo to close shop at N0.99 per share.      Further analysis of yesterday’s transactions showed that ‎Guaranty Trust Bank recorded the highest volume of activities for the day, trading 104.951 million shares valued at N2.304 billion.

United Bank for Africa (UBA) followed, accounting for 104.929 million shares worth N513.044 million. Zenith International Bank sold 83.744 million shares cost N1.392 billion. FBN Holdings exchanged 75.562 million shares valued at N326.773 million and Access Bank traded 48.252 million shares worth N291.940 million.
