The National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE) yesterday shut down Ecobank’s head office following the recent sack of about 1,200 personnel nationwide without recourse to the union.

The union said it had resolved to continue with the picketing until the management of the bank decides to do the needful by ensuring the sacked workers get their legitimate severance package.

President of NUBIFIE, Anthony Abakpa, who said the union would not accept the unilateral peanut of take it or leave it attitude of the bank, said the picketing continues today and in other branches in Lagos.

However, Ecobank said it was yet to come up with any position, as the management was yet to decide on the issue. The bank said it could not come up with any decision as the managing director, Patrick Akinwuntan, was currently out of the country.
