NUC accredits 26 Ebonyi federal varsity’s academic programmes
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to 26 academic programmes of Alex Ekwueme Federal University in Ebonyi State.
The university had during the visit of the NUC’s accreditation panels last year, presented 28 programmes for accreditation, including Accounting, Business Administration, English Language, History, Music, French, Igbo and Philosophy. Others were Anatomy, Fine and Applied Arts, Chemical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering and Civil Engineering.
Others were Applied Geo-Physics, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Mass Communication, Criminology and Security Studies, in line with the commitment of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, to ensure that all its academic programmes are fully accredited before the expiration of his tenure.
The NUC panels had during their visit to the institution last year, commended Nwajiuba for the massive improvement in its infrastructure and academic activities, as well as in the provision of critical teaching and learning equipment.
While expressing happiness over the feat attained by the university, Nwajiuba said the accreditation exercise was an important peer review and quality assurance process meant to improve the quality of the institution’s academic activities to meet the minimum benchmark set by the NUC and global best practices.
He assured that all necessary academic facilities, equipment and staffing would be put in place to ensure that both mechanical and mechatronics engineering programmes receive NUC full accreditation by 2020.
