The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, has condemned incessant illegal disconnections by some officials of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) in the state.

The journalists, yesterday, expressed displeasure over the activities of JED officials who move around the town in the company’s vehicles to disconnect customers on prepaid meters, “simply to force customers back to estimated billing.”

According to a statement by the union, it observed that customers are paying for services not rendered in the name of estimated billings. The Secretary of the union, Isa Garba Gadau, said: “The Press Centre previously paid between N1 million and N1.6 million monthly before installing a prepaid meter. “We now consume about N50,000 per month, or are they sad that they are not getting such an amount from us again? They have disconnected us twice even with the prepaid meter.

They do these illegal disconnections to force customers to ‘estimated billing’. “As we speak, we are in darkness without any allegations of meter bypass. This is what many customers face in Bauchi.”

MEANWHILE, the Southern Kaduna Journalists’ Forum (SKJF) has applauded President Bola Tinubu on the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences and a Medical Centre in the Southern part of Kaduna State.

The forum also commended the synergy between the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, the Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Marshall Katung and the Member representing Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency, Amos Gwamna Magaji, whose historic legislative bills and support given by the governor, resulted in the milestones achievement of the two projects.

The Chairman of SKJF, Ango Bally yesterday, in a statement, said: “We are delighted to note that President Bola Tinubu has consented to the two pivotal bills,” pointing out that the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, sponsored by Senator Katung, and the creation of a Federal Medical Centre, initiated by Magaji are dreams realised by the Southern Kaduna people.
