Nwokocha hails Supreme Court’s sacking of Abure as Labour Party chairman

Sen. Darlington Nwokocha

The Secretary of the Labour Party National Caretaker Committee (LP NCC), Sen. Darlington Nwokocha, has said the Supreme Court’s verdict removing Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party marks a pivotal moment in Nigerian politics.

He said the decision reinforces the rule of law, strengthens democratic governance, and restores stability within the Labour Party.

Nwokocha praised the ruling as a victory for democracy and a testament to the judiciary’s integrity.

Speaking at the Supreme Court in Abuja, he emphasised the significance of the judgment in reaffirming the legal process as the ultimate authority in political disputes.

“This decision is not just a Labour Party victory but a landmark moment for Nigeria’s democracy,” Nwokocha stated.

“It demonstrates that the judiciary remains the last hope for justice and fairness, ensuring that political leadership is guided by law rather than personal ambitions.

“The ruling ends a protracted leadership crisis within the Labour Party, allowing the party to refocus on its core mission—advocating for good governance and the welfare of Nigerians. By upholding judicial independence, the Supreme Court has reinforced public confidence in Nigeria’s legal institutions and democratic resilience.

“Beyond the party, this judgment signals the growing maturity of Nigeria’s democracy. It serves as a reminder that political parties must adhere to internal democratic principles and legal processes in leadership disputes.

“The Labour Party is now calling on all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation, to unite in the pursuit of justice, equity, and democratic progress.

“This ruling is a call to action for all political actors to embrace transparency, accountability, and the rule of law,” Nwokocha added.

The Supreme Court’s decision does more than resolve a party dispute—it reaffirms the supremacy of law in governance, strengthens democratic institutions, and sets a precedent for future political reforms in Nigeria.
