An Igbo socio-political group, the Nzuko Umunna, yesterday, expressed concern over the burning of the country home of President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor on March 19, 2022, by hoodlums.

In a statement issued by Executive Secretary of Nzuko Umunna, Ngozi Odumuko, the group expressed concern over the violence in Alaigbo and urged governors of the South East region to be proactive in fighting crimes.

“’The Nzuko Umunna is shocked that both governments at the national and sub-national levels have done little or nothing to investigate the cause of violence in the South East region with a view to resolving the crisis,’’ he said.

The group solidarised with Obiozor in his ordeal and reassured the Ohanaeze leader that the Nzuko Umunna would continue to support all efforts to rid the region of external and internal pollution and adulteration of the core values for which Igbo people are known.

Odumuko said the group recognised all the responsive actions of representatives of Igbo clerics and traditional rulers in the South East to rid the region of violence and encourage the return of true leadership.

The Nzuko Umunna observed with satisfaction the victory and subsequent swearing-in of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as Governor of Anambra State, noting that the feat marked a turning point in the country’s political history.

It enjoined all Nigerians to support the kind of leadership exemplified by Soludo, who has shown a strong sense of direction in less than one week of assuming office.

“We once again, express our profound sympathy to Obiozor and the people of Imo State and entire Igbo land for the unfortunate incident, which the Ohanaeze Ndigo President does not deserve.

“We, therefore, urge the Imo State Government and the Federal Government to thoroughly investigate and arrest the perpetrators of the heinous crime. This is one attack too many for Nigerians to the stomach and those who trade on blood and destruction must be told that the law is there to punish evil and reward good,” the statement reads.
