Obi surgeryUNTIL 2008, Mr. Johnson Ojo Obi was the typical employed Nigerian youth eking out a living to sustain immediate and extended families as well as dependants, who looked forward to a brighter future. That is where the savoury story ends for the 45-year-old First Class graduate of Electrical Instrumentation and Control Engineering from the Nigerian Institute of Instrument Engineering, who currently battles the fiercest battle to stay alive.

No thanks to a debilitating ailment that has forced him and his family to cough out N20,000 weekly to still keep the father of two breathing albeit for a short-term

According to a medical report from ME CURE Health Limited and signed by the Consultant Cardiologist in charge of ECHO Test, Dr. Lasisi G.T., Obi is suffering from severe Rheumatic Mitral Stenosis or heart failure owing to a diagnosed faulty valve in his heart and urgently needs N6,000, 000 (six million naira) to undergo a corrective surgey in India.

According to the medical consultant, “action must be taken fast because it is already an emergency issue,” adding that, “Obi must be flown to India for a heart surgery to replace the damaged valve.”

Due to his lean financial purse, Obi, who is currently hospitalised at Bolakunmi-Idowu Memorial Medical Centre on the Ikorodu axis of Lagos State, is appealing to government, public-spirited individuals and corporate organisations to come to his aid to help him undergo the surgery as soon as possible.

The bed-ridden patient in a chat with The Guardian, said: “I have two very young kids. Who will take care of them if I die now?” he queried amid a touching air of melancholy.
