Obiano commiserates with Edozieuno’s family
Residents of Mkpu-Nando Community in Anambra East Local Council, Anambra State were thrown into mourning on Friday, following the murder of their former traditional ruler, Igwe Alex Edozieuno and his driver by gunmen.
A source in the community said the gunmen allegedly attacked and killed Edozieuno and his driver, identified as Chukwuemaka on Friday, along Aguleri-Ayamelum Road, Otuocha around 10 am.
Edozieuno was one of the 12 traditional rulers Governor Willie Obiano dethroned last year for allegedly accompanying a prominent son of Anambra State to see President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja without government’s permission.
The state Police Command confirmed the incident, saying the Commissioner of Police, Tony Olofu, has ordered the matter be investigated.
In a statement, the Pulic Relations Office, Ikenga Tochukwu, said: “The Commissioner of Police, Tony Olofu, has led a team of Police operatives to the scene of the murder incident along Ikem Ivife Village by Ezu Bridge, Otuocha, Anambra East. He described the incident as man’s inhumanity to man and ordered immediate investigation to the incident.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the victims, one Mr. Alex Edozieuno, 62, a former traditional ruler of Nkpunado Community, Anambra East Local Council and his driver, Chukwuemeka (other names yet to be identified) were attacked by suspected gunmen at 10am along Ezu Bridge, Otuocha.
“The exhibits recovered from the scene include one Lexus 470, belonging to the victim and some expended ammunition.” The bodies have been deposited in the mortuary, while further development shall be communicated.”
Meanwhile, Anambra State government has condemned what it described as Edozieuno’s violent death.
A statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Don Adinuba, said the government received with shock the news of Edozieuno’s death.
