Obong of Calabar, others disenfranchised
The Obong of Calabar, His Eminence Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu V and his community members were, yesterday, disenfranchised due to a malfunctioned card reader.
Disappointed by the development, the monarch said it could be a plan that INEC logistic challenges prevented him and his people from discharging their civic duty at his Polling Unit 3, Ward 9 at a primary school in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The Obong lamented that he had gone out to vote as early as 9am, only for INEC officials to tell them they forgot ballot papers for the governorship elections. And when he returned at about 12.50 pm, he was informed that the materials were brought, but the card reader was not working.
“I am tempted to suspect sabotage. My people and I have been waiting here since morning. They said the governorship materials were forgotten. The question is: why should they forget such materials? Later, they said card reader is not working. What type of system is this?”
