A former member House of Representatives, Mr. Lanre Odubote, who represented Epe Federal Constituency Lagos State, has appealed to members of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the party’s faithful , to come out en masse on Saturday March 11 2023 to vote for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He also congratulated the President Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying his victory was well deserved. Odubote thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for creating an enabling environment for his party to win  just as he commended the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmoud Yakubu for a job well done.

The erstwhile lawmaker however expressed displeasure over how the Labour Party (LP) scored more votes that the ruling APC in the February 25 presidential poll in Lagos State.  According to him, “such must not be allowed to happen in the coming gubernatorial contest.”

Odubote while speaking with The Guardian Newspapers, said Sanwo-Olu, had done so well such that he deserves the support of all voters both indigenes and non indigenes, who believe in the development of Lagos.

According to him, “This is the right time for Lagos to achieve whatever it desires, now that a former governor of the state has been elected president. Lagos stands to benefit more if Sanwo-Olu is re-elected considering the fact that the Senator elects representing the three Senatorial zones, Lagos West, Central and East,  have served in various capacities either as elective or appointive positions in Lagos State.

“These senators not new to governance. They are tested and capable hands, who will work with Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State.”

Odubote noted that Lagos stands to benefit immensely under the Bola Tinubu-led presidency as from May 29 2023 if APC retains control of the state on March 11.

The former Federal lawmaker also cited the likes of Wale Raji, who was re-elected to represent Epe Federal Constituency. He noted that Raji, has once served as a permanent secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative in Lagos.

“Another advantage Lagos will derive is that Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, who is to step in as the first lady of Nigeria a few months away, is a Senator representing Lagos Central in the last 12 years.

“The senator elect for Lagos West, Idiat Adebule is a former deputy governor in Lagos, Tokunbo Abiru, senator elect for Lagos East served as a Commissioner in the state while senator elect for Lagos Central, Wasiu Esinlokun is the incumbent deputy speaker Lagos State  Assembly. Lagos will have a solid team of representatives at the centre and it is therefore necessary to retain Lagos under APC for even development.”

The former lawmaker also appealed to all aggrieved Yoruba citizens to have a rethink and not allow non-indigenes, who have less or no stake in Lagos to decide for them.

According to him, “Our youths need to see beyond their grievances, our elders must close ranks and speak truth to one another, we cannot afford to allow people with lesser stake to determine our heritage. We need to protect Lagos by returning Sanwo-Olu.”

Odubote also pleaded with the Christian communities and leaders to support Sanwo-Olu just as he urged the Muslims community to do the same. He pleaded against allowing religious sentiment to determine how we will vote in the next gubernatorial poll. “Lagos needs to be retained under APC for even development. The incumbent governor and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat have done very well and therefore deserve to be returned.”

The APC stalwart also cautioned anybody planning violence to eschew such an idea just as he urged the Lagos indigenes and Yoruba not to give room for strangers to disrupt the peace of the state.

According to him, “One thing we needed to prevent seriously in Lagos is religious disagreement and suspicion, otherwise it can set the entire Yoruba land on fire. We need the elders in Yoruba land to commence a serious reconciliatory move across the Southwest geo-political zone.

“Lagos is a heritage for Yoruba land and it is our responsibility to preserve it. I do not want a situation where our children and generation will be suppressed by non indigenes in the future. That dangerous trend is ongoing and we need to close ranks to address it.”
