A recipient of the prestigious Diana Award, Christopher Olusa has launched his first book, ‘No More Future: Why Waiting Is Over, What to Build Instead,’ written to signal a shift in Nigeria’s youth development discourse.

The book launch, which drew dignitaries from government and civil society, centered on a premise that challenges the pervasive culture of dependency among Nigerian youths.

While arguing that the era of passive expectation has given way to an urgent demand for proactive agency, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, who graced the event, urged young Nigerians to seize available opportunities rather than await solutions from authorities.

The minister, represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Dotun Omoleye, stated that the era of waiting for government intervention before pursuing personal development goals had ended.

According to Olawande, young Nigerians must abandon the mindset of waiting for the government to “fix things before building, waiting for the right connections before starting, and waiting for permission to become what they already have the capacity to be.”

He emphasized that Nigeria’s greatest national asset resides not in its natural resources but in the potential embedded within its youth population, stressing that the country suffers not from a deficit of potential but from a deficiency in collective courage among young people to transition from waiting to constructive action.

The minister described Olusa’s book as a clarion call for courage, noting that government investments in youth development represent an invitation to embrace agency and responsibility for personal and national transformation.

“I believe that this generation is finally ready to answer it. What you do with that open door is the story that has not yet been written. Christopher has given you a framework. The Ministry of Youth Development will continue to give you platforms, capital, and training, but the actual building of your future remains yours to do.”

The Chairman of the House Committee on the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, Ifeoluwa Ehindero, who is representing the Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency, argued that rather than waiting, young Nigerians should deliberately construct the future they desire through intentional action and enterprise.

“The book is a powerful call to action; it reminds us that the future is not something we should merely wait for; the future is something we must actively create,” Ehindero stated.

The lawmaker maintained that young people had been conditioned to wait for government intervention, employment opportunities, discovery by others, or perfect circumstances before taking meaningful action.

“The reality is that nations are transformed when their citizens move from expectation to action, from dependency to enterprise, and from complaining about the future to building it.

Prof. Jerry Ugokwe, who served as the book reviewer, noted that many youths had treated the future as a destination or something that would be given to them rather than something to be actively constructed.

According to Ugokwe, the book dismantled the illusion that presents the future as something one waits for, instead repositioning it as something one builds through deliberate effort and strategic action.

“One of the most compelling strengths of this book is its intellectual honesty,” Ugokwe observed. “It does not romanticize the Nigerian condition, nor does it weaponize victimhood. Instead, it balances realism with responsibility.”

The reviewer acknowledged that the book addresses systemic issues, including educational gaps, economic volatility, and institutional delays, but prevents readers from using these challenges as excuses for inaction.
