THE Gubernatorial Candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogun State, Prince Rotimi Babajide has appealed to voters in the state, to support APM in 2027, arguing that the state needs a new direction after years of administration by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Babajide who made the appeal on Monday, while rolling out his programmes for the state, said if elected his administration would bring development to the rural areas, disclosing that he would establish market hubs for farmers.
Babajide also pledged reforms in electricity, agriculture, industrial development, youth empowerment, security, potable water and public accountability.
On electricity, he said an APM government would pursue measures to improve power supply to enable artisans, manufacturers and small businesses to operate more effectively.
He also promised to attract investors to Ogun State, upgrade the state’s airport to international standards and create more employment opportunities for young people.
Babajide further pledged reforms in electricity, agriculture, industrial development, youth empowerment, security, potable water and public accountability.
The candidate said his administration would also introduce technology-driven channels through which residents could communicate directly with government agencies and report emergencies and other public concerns.
Babajide also presented his candidacy within the context of Ogun’s ethnic and political balance, describing himself as an “Egba-Egbado” candidate and calling for unity among the state’s different communities.
He said the APM campaign would seek to mobilise voters around what he described as a programme centred on education, economic development, employment and improved public services.
Babajide also pledged to declare a state of emergency in the state’s education sector if elected governor. He said the move would be aimed at urgently reversing the decline and retrogression in education across the state.
He said the emergency would not involve the use of firearms, curfews or restrictions on movement, but would be a focused intervention designed to restore the quality of education in Ogun State.
According to him, the state has a long-standing reputation for academic excellence, citing the contributions of renowned Nigerians including Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Tai Solarin and Professor Wole Soyinka.
He said Ogun State could not afford to allow the educational standards established by previous generations to continue to deteriorate.
He said: “If elected by the grace of God come May 29, 2027, I am going to declare a state of emergency in education because the education that our forefathers had brought to us, the likes of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Tai Solarin, Professor Wole Soyinka, and so many others, Ransom Kuti, and all of these families, are you getting it? The education they have brought to us, we can see a decline, a serious decline and retrogression in our education sector.
