Citing alleged misconduct, the Ogun State House of Assembly yesterday passed a vote of no confidence on the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Lekan Adegbite.
The development followed a shouting match between the Deputy Speaker of the 26-member legislature, Olakunle Oluomo and Adegbite.
The House had on Tuesday summoned Adegbite as well as three other commissioners, Adeleke Adewolu (Special Duties), Chief Jide Ojuko (Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs) and Adenrele Adesina (Budget and Planning) to appear before it yesterday over alleged poor condition of rural roads across the state.
But while the commissioner arrived at the assembly before 10:00 a.m., the lawmakers were to come an hour later. The “lateness,” it was learnt, provoked the altercation between Adegbite and the legislators.
At 12:07 p.m., the commissioner walked out of the complex, saying his meeting with the lawmakers had been rescheduled to “some other time.”
However, the House during plenary, deliberated on the disagreement and eventually took a position, describing Adegbite’s action as an “affront on a separate arm of government” which confirmed his appointment as a commissioner.
