Resident of the Comfort Community Development Association (CDA) in Likosi Dejuwogbo Phase 1, Sagamu Local Council of Ogun State have lamented four years of darkness due to a faulty transformer.

The community, located opposite the popular Mosimi Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) area, said they have written countless letters, gone on radio shows and staged protests to get the attention of the appropriate authorities to no avail.

Chairman of the CDA, Salawu Waheed Abiodun alias Eko oni Baje, said the lack of power has led to the loss of lives, destruction of businesses and insurmountable loss running into millions of Naira.

He alleged that the only primary Health Centre (PHC) in the community is no longer operational because of the power situation, which has rendered the community desolate.

Abiodun, who spoke with The Guardian via telephone, urged the governor to come to their aid by providing a new transformer.

He revealed that the copper coils of the transformer were carted away last year by robbers as it was abandoned, but through communal effort and donation, they have been able to buy the stolen parts back.

“IBEDC officials were helping us patch it in the past until four years ago when they told us it was completely beyond repair. The number of houses on the transformer is too much and that was what was causing it to break down frequently before it finally packed up. Two transformers would be better but if we can get a high-capacity one to start with, it would go a long way in relieving our burden,” he said.

Lamenting the situation, a business owner in the area, Musbau Adeyemi, said the lack of power has destroyed many businesses.
