Nigerians have been charged to protect government infrastructural facilities and desist from vandalising public utilities.

The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele gave the charge yesterday at the annual retreat for all arms-bearing departments and units of the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps held at the NSCDC Cooperative building, Abeokuta.

She stated that the theme of the retreat, tagged “fundamentals of law enforcement and protection of infrastructural facilities towards achieving a peaceful society” was apt given the rate at which people deface, damage, and steal public infrastructure.

Salako-Oyedele commended the NSCDC for collaborating with other security outfits in protecting the lives and property of the people and urged the corps to intensify efforts at sensitising the public on the need to enhance the collective value of government infrastructure for the common use of all.

While emphasising the importance of ensuring a safer society, the deputy governor pointed out that strengthening the security architecture of the state is a priority of the governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration.

Also speaking, the state NSCDC commandant, Mr. David Ojelabi said the retreat was part of the contributions of the security agency to maintaining peace in the state, thanking the government for supporting the corps towards improved operations across the gateway state.
