Ogun govt sets up administrative body for Awujale stool transition

The Ogun State Government has constituted an administrative body to oversee traditional and administrative responsibilities in Ijebu Ode during the transition period until a new Awujale is installed.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, and made available to journalists in Abeokuta.

The body will be chaired by the Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland and co-founder of EKO Hospital, Chief Folorunso Kuku, who also serves as one of the Ilamurens.

Other members include Chief Oluwaranti Lekan Osifeso (Madassa) as Secretary, Chief Stephen Bakare Oluwalogbon (Ilamuren), Chief Bisola Oluneye Okuboyejo (Ilamuren), Chief Funmilola Okunowo (Ilamuren), Prof. Jide Ajayi (Ilamuren), Chief Tunde Odulaja (Pampa), Chief Abimbola Okenla (Pampa), Chief Agboola Alausa (Pampa), Mrs. Adebisi Oshibogun (Pampa), and Chief Adebisi Adaran (Gbeden), who serves as Ogbeni Odi.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring stability, continuity, and respect for Ijebu Ode’s traditions during the transition.

“The state government calls on all sons and daughters of Ijebuland, both at home and in the diaspora, to extend their unflinching support to the constituted administrative body,” the statement read. “The cooperation of all stakeholders is crucial in safeguarding the peace, harmony, and unity that Ijebu land is known for.”

The government also urged residents to remain law-abiding and peaceful while supporting the process, stressing its resolve to uphold transparency, inclusiveness, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
