• Awujale: Group faults appointment of interregnum chairman over alleged misconduct
The Eselu of Iselu Kingdom in Yewa North Local Council of Ogun State, Oba Ebenezer Akinyemi, has approached the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, to challenge his suspension by the state government over alleged involvement in partisan politics.
Oba Akinyemi, who instituted a suit against Governor Dapo Abiodun and other government officials, said he was suspended without prior notice of the allegation or an opportunity to defend himself.
Justice A.A. Okeke has, however, fixed November 11, 2026, for a ruling on the monarch’s application seeking an interim injunction restraining the state government and the police from enforcing his suspension.
IN another development, the Ijebu Progressive Elders Forum (IPEF), Ogun State, has faulted the state government’s appointment of Olisa of Ijebu-Ode, Rasheed Adesanya, as the Chairman of the reconstituted Awujale Interregnum of the Administrative Council (AIAC).
The group described Adesanya’s appointment as a source of concern, citing reports that the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, had previously suspended him over alleged misconduct.
In a statement signed by its National President, Adebanjo Adeboluro, yesterday, the IPEF said that Adesanya’s appointment as chairman of AIAC would not yield a good result towards the succession of a new Awujale, following his suspension over alleged misconduct.
Adeboluro said that the people of Ijebu-Ode expected decisions regarding the vacant Awujale stool to promote transparency, preserve the dignity of the traditional institution, and sustain public confidence in the process.
He, however, called on Abiodun to explain the circumstances that informed Adesanya’s appointment, stressing that the government must clarify issues surrounding his reported suspension, reinstatement and subsequent elevation.
