A 32-year-old commercial motorcyclist, identified as Laolu Omogunwa, is on the run for allegedly raping a pregnant woman, Sade Jawo, at Ago Akingboye in Irele Council of Ondo State.

It was gathered that 30-year-old Sade had engaged the suspect to carry her from Ode-Ajagba to a farm settlement on his motorcycle, popularly known as okada, to purchase kegs of palm oil.

Recounting her ordeal, the victim said Omogunwa on the way to the destination, took through another route on the pretext that she would get palm oil cheaper in the area than where she intended going.

She explained that the suspect drove her into a lonely path, where he suddenly stopped, dragged her into the bush, strangled her, dispossessed her of her phone and the sum of N150, 000, before rapping her until she became unconscious.

Sade disclosed that Omogunwa almost raped her to death before he left her, thinking she was dead until she was revived by heavy rain that fell several hours later.

She said when the family didn’t see her at the time she was expected to be back home, they organised a search party, which later discovered her struggling to crawl to the road, adding that it took her about 48 hours to regain full consciousness and that she lost the pregnancy as a result of excessive bleeding.

Speaking on the incident, the Ahaba of Ajagba, Oba Raphael Adesayo, said it is a taboo to have carnal knowledge of women on bare ground in Ikaleland, adding that the consequence of such desecration of the custom of the town is poor yields and famine, unless the offender, who was being trailed by detectives, appeased the gods of the land.
