The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has hailed the reappointment of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), describing her reappointment as an inspiration to Nigerian women and girls.

In a statement at the weekend, the minister said Okonjo-Iweala has broken the barrier as both the first woman and the first African to head the organization, serving as an inspiring example for Nigerian women and girls.

She said, “On behalf of all Nigerian women, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her reappointment as DG of the WTO. This is a well-deserved testament to her tireless commitment to fostering global economic progress and equity.”

Sulaiman-Ibrahim highlighted Okonjo-Iweala’s remarkable achievements and her exceptional leadership during her tenure at the WTO.

The minister said that Okonjo-Iweala serves as a source of inspiration not only for Nigerian women but for women around the world, taking pride in her achievements and the honour she brings to Nigeria.

She noted Okonjo-Iweala’s extensive expertise in economics and international development, which has garnered her numerous accolades.

She urged Nigerian women and girls to aspire to be the best in their chosen careers with dedication and self-belief.
