Olayinka urges new UI VC to hit ground running
The immediate past Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, at the weekend, charged the newly-elected VC of the premier university, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, to put the sordid experience of the past 13 months behind him and hit the ground running.
Adebowale served under Olayinka’s vice chancellorship as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration).
However, last Thursday, Adebowale, who is still the incumbent DVC (Administration), emerged the 13th substantive VC of the university, beating the acting VC, Prof. Adebola Ekanola and 14 others.
In a statement sighted by journalists, Prof. Olayinka stated: “Given your prodigious energy, extensive network of collaborators, gentle mien, humility, respect for all, loyalty to friends, strength of character and integrity, we have no doubt that you will excel.”
“The fact is often deliberately overlooked that not too many scholars in the Nigerian university system have a better research publication profile than you. You are a VC with a CV.
“Please put the sordid experience of the past 13 months behind you. Colleagues from all over the world have been asking us why it is so difficult for the pre-eminent university in Sub-Saharan Africa to perform a simple task of appointing a Vice Chancellor. You have to hit the ground running from day 1. Best wishes always, the latest news in town.”
