Oluremi Tinubu rejects criticism over ‘Akara Sellers’ comment

Senator Oluremi Tinubu

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has clarified that her administration’s women empowerment initiatives are not limited to akara sellers, saying traders across different sectors will continue to benefit from government support.

Responding to criticism over her earlier remarks, she said beneficiaries also include tomato, pepper and vegetable sellers, as well as boli vendors and other small-scale traders.

She maintained that the programme would continue despite what she described as misleading reports, expressing confidence that those who benefit from the initiative would appreciate the effort.

“I know they have been talking that I said akara. It’s not only akara. We also have tomato sellers, we have boli, and those selling pepper, selling vegetables in the market. We’ll continue to empower them… We are not intimidated by all those wrong reports,” she said.
