Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga, yesterday, prayed for sustained peaceful atmosphere, which pervaded the eight-year administration of the outgoing governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, in Enugu State.

Onaga, who prayed for success of the incoming Peter Mbah’s administration, called on God to give him strength, courage and wisdom to transform, as well as lead the state to the Promised Land.

He urged him to emulate Ugwuany’s humility and peaceful disposition.

The bishop, in a thanksgiving/inauguration celebration at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu, organised by the state government, insisted that the governor had done well and thanked God for using him.

He noted that Mbah’s victory at the March 18 governorship election was an act of God, and called on residents in the state to support the new administration to bring the much-desired positive change that would impact on lives.

He also stated that the Church was having double celebration, because of the Feast of the Holy Spirit, popularly called Pentecost Sunday, stressing that the Cathedral took its name after the feast and had every reason to be grateful to God.

Ugwuanyi and his deputy, Cecilia Ezeilo, were present at the celebration. Also, the governor-elect and his deputy, Ifeanyi Ossai, attended with their wifes, Nkechinyere Mbah and Adaeze Ossai, respectively.

In his homily, Monsignor Obiora Ike enjoined Christians and people across the world to see the feast of the Holy Spirit and what it represents as an opportunity to unite and live in peace.

While calling on public servants in the country to see themselves as people called to serve and not to enrich themselves with public funds, the monsignor urged them to shun corruption and prioritise things that would advance the common good.
