Ondo detects over N104m fraud in civil service


Suspends 25 workers for alleged theft, employment racketeering

Twenty-five workers in Ondo State Civil Service Commission have been suspended for defrauding the state government of public funds running into millions of naira and involving in employment racketeering.

Senior Special Assistant to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Special Duties, Mr. Doyin Odebowale, who paraded the workers yesterday in Akure, assured that they would be prosecuted accordingly.

Besides, another member of staff, whose name was also not mentioned, defrauded his office, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), by moving out N104 million from the coffers of the board without authorisation.

Odebowale said that the 25 workers committed the offence by inserting fictitious names in the state government’s payroll. He said that they were caught due to reforms carried out by the Head of Service, Mr. Dare Aragbaye.
