Contrary to fears of possible violence, the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government polls in Ondo State was peaceful across the 18 councils of the state.

This was unlike the last ward congress held across the 203 wards in the state, which was allegedly hijacked by a faction of the party loyal to the incumbent governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and his Secretary to the State Governor, Ifedayo Abegunde.

According to reliable sources, the congress shut out the three APC senators and five House of Representative members in the state, causing rancour within the ruling party.

The Guardian noted that the event was peaceful and successful, especially in Akure South.

The acting state chairman of the party, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, said: “There is only one centre in Akure South and 27 elected delegates from the ward, including five delegates from local government to elect government executives.”
