One dies, two sustained injuries in Lekki-Epe accident

*As fire razes billion naira worth goods in Shomolu market

A yet to be identified man lost his life in an along the Lekki-Epe Expressway when a truck rammed into his car. Also, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said as at this morning, it is still battling to put out a raging fire at Olaleye market in Shomolu axis of Lagos State. 

The wine coloured Toyota Corolla car with  registration number FJK 353 GC that was reportedly rammed into from behind while on motion by an unidentified hit and run truck, was recovered by LASEMA Response Team from the accident scene at Ikota, along Lekki-Epe Expressway to  curtail any secondary incident.

The Toyota Corolla car was said to have rammed into a roadside culvert from impact of the collision when the unidentified truck hit it from behind, while on motion. Death of the adult, male driver/owner and the critical injuries sustained by the other two adult males, were attributed to the resultant impact of the collision on the car when it was rammed from behind by  truck into the culverts.

Preliminary Report by LASEMA on the accident at Ikota,  Lekki-epe Expressway has it that, “Upon arrival at the incident scene,  it was observed that a wine colored Toyota Corolla car with  registration no. FJK-353GC was involved a Road Traffic Collision.

“Investigation carried out at the scene revealed that while the Toyota car was on motion, an unidentified Truck ran into it from behind. 

“Upon this impacts, the Toyota car rammed into the roadside culvert. The unidentified truck fled the scene immediately the incident occured.

“An adult male lost his life as a result of the incident and 2 adult males reportedly taken rushed to the hospital before the arrival of responders to the scene.

“The car has been recovered to a nearby layby whilst the fatality has been extricated with aid of the Light Rescue Equipments and bagged as the LASEMA Response Team awaits SEHMU for transfer of the commodity to the morgue.

In another development, LASEMA, it’s Fire Unit and officers of the Federal Fire Service are presently battling an ongoing fire that is raging at Olaleye market in Shomolu, Bariga area of Lagos in order to curtail it’s spread to proximal buildings.

In a statement, LASEMA though no lives were lost to the inferno, nor were injuries sustained, however, efforts are ongoing to ensure that the fire does not cause further havoc as properties and goods valued to be worth several billions of naira, has been razed down by the inferno

Preliminary Report on Fire incident at Olaleye Market, Shomolu on Saturday 30th of May 2020 has it that, “LASEMA Response Team received a distress call from control room as regards a fire outbreak at the aforementioned location and immediately deployed to the incident scene

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that Olaleye Market located at Shomolu was gutted by fire.

“However investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain cause of fire.

“Lagos State Fire Service, LRU fire and the Federal Fire Service are currently battling the inferno and preventing it from spreading to other residential buildings 

“No life was lost and no injuries sustained, but properties and goods worth several billions of naira is currently being razed down by the inferno”
