Onne customs generates N8.4b revenue in January

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Area II Command, Onne Port, Rivers State, said it generated N8.4 billion revenue and seized nine containers of various items in January this year.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Area II Command, Onne Port, Rivers State, said it generated N8.4 billion revenue and seized nine containers of various items in January this year.

It also disclosed that N94 billion was generated in 2018 and seized 118 containers of tramadol, machetes, rice and vegetable oil, among others.Area Controller, Saidu Galadima, said this yesterday during the International Customs Day 2019, with the theme: Smarter Borders for Seamless Trade, Travel and Transport at Onne.

Galadima said the success was attained by the joint effort of stakeholders and officers, assuring that the achievements in 2019 would surpass the gains of 2018.

“Our current profile in facilitating legitimate trade and checkmating influx of illicit goods shows that we have continued to acquire stronger fame and credibility in boosting the nation’s revenue base,” he added.

Speaking, Assistant Comptroller General of Customs (ACG), Charles Edike (rtd.), charged NCS personnel to be honest and show dedication to duty. “There is no amount of smartness we can display, if we are not honest and dedicated to our duties. Don’t abuse the privilege,” he stated.
