Former member of the House of Representatives for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Sam Onuigbo, has inaugurated the Abia State chapter of the Strategic Mobilisation Network for Tinubu Continuity 2027 (SMNTC2027), a group seeking President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
Sam Onuigbo, who is president of GLOBE Legislators, unveiled the network during an interactive meeting with members and stakeholders in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
He said the group was established to mobilise support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition beyond conventional political structures and party meetings.
“Our mission is to build a strong and effective political mobilisation that will take the message of continuity beyond party meetings and political circles, reaching ordinary Nigerians in their markets, workplaces, schools, communities and places of worship,” he said.
Onuigbo, a patron of the network, said the group comprised people from different political parties and backgrounds who shared a common belief in Nigeria’s future and supported continuity in the current administration.
He argued that the policies and reforms introduced by Tinubu since assuming office in 2023 provided grounds for supporting his re-election, while acknowledging that the country still faced significant challenges.
According to him, Nigeria was grappling with serious economic difficulties when Tinubu took office, including inflation of 22.41 per cent, pressure on government revenue and distortions in the foreign exchange market.
He attributed some of the challenges to the previous administration, including the accumulation of N27 trillion in Ways and Means advances.
Onuigbo said Tinubu had taken difficult decisions, including the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, as part of efforts to reform the economy.
He, however, acknowledged that the country had yet to reach its desired destination, adding that more work was needed to address the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians.
He urged members of the network to intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, focusing on the need for continuity, consolidation and national development.
Among those present at the meeting were a retired Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) director, Chief Enyi Onyekwere; a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Ezebuiro; President of the Rice Millers Association of Abia State, Engr. Jack Okwuonu; and retired permanent secretaries, students, youths, market women, widows and persons with disabilities.
Ezebuiro, a PDP chieftain, said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had been accommodating to members of his party, describing the two parties as interconnected.
“APC and PDP are part of each other. We do not expect all Igbo to vote for President Tinubu, but he will surely garner more than 25 per cent votes in Abia State,” he said.
Representatives of student groups from Abia State University, Uturu; Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba; and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, said Tinubu’s re-election would sustain the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which provides loans to students.
Speaking for women, a retired civil servant and former Education Secretary for Isiala Ngwa South, Lady Odochi Odor, said women supported the arguments advanced for Tinubu’s re-election. She also commended the benefits they had received through the administration’s Renewed Hope Initiative.
Chief Mrs. Ego Nwamuo also praised the administration, citing the absence of an Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike during Tinubu’s tenure.
Representing widows, Mrs. Agatha Egesi acknowledged the administration’s support but urged the President to address the rising cost of food, fuel and other essential goods.
Representatives of persons with disabilities, Abraham Alugwe and Emmanuel Ohaeri, also commended the administration.
While Alugwe thanked the government for its support and empowerment initiatives, Ohaeri credited the enabling environment under the administration for his success at the Para-Badminton International Championship in Kampala, Uganda, in July 2026, where he won two gold medals and one silver.
