A former Abia State Governor, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu Wednesday formally joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) with a strong commitment to contribute his quota the political and economic development of the country.

But the former governor dismissed insinuations that he rushed into the ruling party with a view to truncating his ongoing trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC). His decision was in line with family demands of him, he said

Receiving the former governor and some of his supporters at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun described the entrance of Kalu into the party as timely, given the fact that the country required the experience, resilience and never-die-spirit of the former governor to help lift the country from its current economic challenges.

Kalu was accompanied to the secretariat by his former Osun State counterpart and chieftain of the party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, his political associates like the former Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, (PPA) Dr Sam Nkire, his younger brother, Mascot Kalu among others.

The former governor said his decision to join the APC was dictated by the family demands recalling the recent visit to the APC headquarters by his mother, Mama Eunice and some of his siblings. While admitting that he had so many friends in the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), but he believed that family demands come first.
