Ortom, CAN eulogise Mailafia, seek immortalisation
Benue State Government has sympathised with the Mailafia family and the leadership of the Middle Belt over the death of former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Obadiah Mailafia.
Ortom in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, noted that Mailafia passed on, September 19, 2021, after a brief illness at the Gwagwalada General Hospital, Abuja. The governor described the demise of the renowned banker as shocking and unfortunate.
According to Ortom, Mailafia, who was under scrutiny by the Department of State Services (DSS) over his comments and stance on the killings in Southern Kaduna, will be remembered, not only for standing for justice for his people but other marginalised people in Nigeria.
Similarly, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has described Mailafia’s passing as a rude shock and a great loss to the country and the Church.
The association called on the federal and Kaduna governments to immortalise him.
In a statement, yesterday, in Abuja, CAN’s General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, said the association was dumbfounded by the sudden death of Mailafia, who had been the voice of the voiceless, a voice of courage, wisdom and reason, a patriot par excellence and a genuine Christian, when the Church and country needed him most.
“We call on the federal and Kaduna governments to immortalise him. The people of the Middle Belt too should not forget the man who served them till the end. On our own part, CAN will not be left behind, as we have resolved to honour him during our forthcoming anniversary,” he said.
