Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will join Senate President Bukola Saraki, Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun and other leading industry players today to discuss the capital market’s role in Nigeria’s economic growth.

Others expected at the brainstorming session include House of Representatives Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara; Chairman, Wapic Insurance Plc Aigboje Aig-Imokhuede; and Group Managing Director of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe.

With the theme, ‘Capital Market as a Catalyst for Economic Growth and Development’, the event will hold at the Abuja Sheraton Hotels and Towers.

The Guardian gathered that the idea was mooted after the recent release of economic forecasts that showed improvement in the Nigerian capital market.

Consolidating on the gains of the improvement, the stakeholders will be setting the agenda for sustainable growth of the capital market and critically re-examine the regulations guiding legal, regulatory and operational framework.

The event is also expected to yield practicable recommendations on ways to maximise the potentials of the capital market and to pool the needed resources for investment to drive accelerated development of infrastructure across various regions of the country.

Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Capital Market and Institutions, Hon. Teejay Yusuf, while addressing newsmen, emphasised the importance of the stakeholders’ forum from the prism of building a critical mass that will provide expertise to navigate the unpredictable terrain by implementing reforms that will boost financial market and stimulate inflow of capital into the Nigerian economy.
