A war of words erupted on X between Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, as political banter over the 2026 Osun State governorship election quickly shifted to the singer’s Grammy record.

 

The exchange began after Bashir Ahmad, who recently participated in the APC governorship primary in Osun State, responded to criticism surrounding the 16 votes he secured during the exercise.

 

In a post on X, Ahmad wrote: “We have talked enough about the number of votes I got in my primaries. Can we now talk about the number of Grammy Awards you have won from your five nominations, David? Fair is fair.”

 

Davido, whose uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is expected to play a key role in the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2026 election, fired back almost immediately.

 

The award-winning singer dismissed Ahmad’s comparison, replying: “U got 16 votes bro in primaries STFU.”
