The Co-Convener, Five Star Movement, Jude Feranmi Adejuwon has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police,Olatunji Rilwan Disu over the alleged inflammatory remarks by the lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Francis Fadahunsi ahead of the Saturday’s governorship election in Osun state.

He urged the IGP to order the immediate arrest and prosecution of Senator Francis Fadahunsi for thorough interrogation regarding his clear call for political liquidation and violence.

In a petition dated August, 12, 2026, which was made available to The Guardian, Adejuwon alleged that the utterance and direct command issued by Senator Fadahunsi violate the Section 97 and Section 125 of the Electoral Act which strictly prohibit any individual or candidate from threatening any person with force or violence during political campaigns or elections.

He argued that the lawmaker’s utterances is a violation of the Section 249 of the Criminal Code Act governing conducts and utterances highly likely to cause an immediate breach of public peace and order and Section 320 & 323 of the Criminal Code concerning written or verbal threats to kill and incitement to murder.

Adejuwon emphasized that given that pre-election violence in Osun State has already claimed multiple lives, and that the Osun State Police Command has already issued an initial summons to the Senator, the IGP should take decisive actions to avert a breakdown of law and order before the August 15, 2026, election.

He called on the IGP to conduct a swift forensic investigation into the viral video and the gathering in llesa to uncover any planned deployments of political thugs and stressed the need to arraign and prosecute the Senator before a court of competent jurisdiction for criminal incitement and threats to life to serve as a deterrent to other political actors.

He said, “While the Senator has since issued a public clarification claiming he meant to “kill with votes”, the literal, unambiguous deployment of his words inciting physical liquidation in a volatile pre-election climate creates an immediate, clear, and present danger to human lives in ljesaland and Osun State at large”.

“Mr IGP Sir, You are a Yoruba man and Sen Francis Fadahunsi’s words were unmistakable, direct and meant to “kill” in the literal sense of the word. His clarification by his media aide that he meant to “kill with votes” is insulting to our sensibilities and makes a fool of everyone who is a Yoruba man/woman and heard those words.From today till the day of the election, The words were unambiguous wherever we find them, we’ll be killing them”.

Adejuwon observed that Nigeria is a society governed by the rule of law, adding that no individual, regardless of their political height or legislative status, should be allowed to preach violence or incite political genocide without consequences.

He appealed to the IGP to deploy adequate security coverage around the vulnerable local government areas highlighted by the threats-specifically llesa East, Ilesa West, Obokun, Oriade, and the Atakumosa axes.

Emphasizing the need for urgent action, Adejuwon said, “IGP Sir, You have resumed your duty as the Inspector General with a heart and resolve for reforms in the law and order sector of our country. You have taken precise and swift actions when some of the rogue officers in the police force have acted wrongly. You have stated your resolve for law and order reform and backed them with action. I am asking you to do the same now”.

“There is a clear law that has been violated here. The question now is this, Is Senator Fadahunsi above the law? Is a media parley and a press statement the prescribed redress for violating a law? Will your police officers who were recently dismissed have been overlooked if they simply did a press statement and interviews after violating the law? Finally, this episode will already define your term as the IGP, and will inform Nigerians both home and abroad whether your resolve for reform in the law and order sector is only going to be targeted at ‘ordinary Nigerians.

“Senator Francis Fadahunsi is not protected by civil immunity according to our constitution during his term as Senator. He has violated a clear law. We trust in your commitment to keeping Nigeria safe and ensuring a peaceful electoral process,” he added.
