The OurMumuDonDo Movement has introduced a campaign to focus on inclusive participation in democratic governance, discourage trading of votes during elections, scale up citizens’ performance of civic duties, and encourage the culture of holding leaders accountable.

In a statement, yesterday, in Abuja, the body said it understands that the gravest challenge to entrenching democracy in Nigeria is lack of effective engagement of citizens in political governance. It said this results in lack of real accountability, corruption, poor governance and general failure of political leadership. The group stated that the movement also recognises the expediency of salvaging Nigeria from intractable challenges and decades of oppression and executive misrule in governance.

It further stated that it was in view of the foregoing and the group’s vehement interest in bringing about social change that it has decided to commence a national reawakening project called, ‘The Nigerian Social Contract Initiative (NSCI)’.

It explained that the NSCI project is fundamentally premised on socio-political urgency to scale up citizens’ engagement in governance and create a viable tool to demand a pro-people and transparent democracy.
