IT was a triumphant farewell as family members and dignitaries from all walks of life yesterday bade farewell to one of Nigeria’s foremost anesthesiologists, Professor Wensley Vidal Maobolaji Fowler.

Described as a loving father, grandfather and husband as well as an erudite scholar, the late Fowler was one of the founding fathers of the West African College of Surgeons and held various positions there, the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) as well as the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and his wife, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo were present at the funeral. Other dignitaries present included the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife, Senator Remi Tinubu. Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Lola Akande represented the governor of Lagos State. Chief Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, Mrs Bimbo Ashiru and Adenrele Adesina represented the governor of Ogun State.

Other dignitaries were General Ike Nwachukwu (rtd) and his wife; the Chancellor of Hallmark University, Ijebu-Itele, Professor Wale Omole; Alhaji Rufai Johnson, Chief Chris Ogunbanjo and Chief J.K Randle.

A host of traditional fathers from Lagos and Ogun states were present as well to pay their last respects to the late scholar who was was aged 92 years.
