Kogi state government has uncovered fraud of over N8.4 billion committed by three officers of the State University in Ayingba. They had been embezzling N100 million monthly for the last seven years.

The director, general media and publicity to Governor Yahaya Bello, Kingsley Fanwo, revealed this after the weekly executive council meeting at the government house yesterday. He explained that the fraud was discovered during the last staff screening exercise.

Though he was not forthcoming on the identity of the people involved, he however said the money was stolen by planting ghost workers, vowing that every kobo defrauded the state government must be accounted for.

He also disclosed that government has approved the establishment of three markets in Ankpa, Kabba and Adavi to boost commercial activities in the state, adding that contracts for the construction have already been awarded and work will commence in September to last one year.

Fanwo also disclosed that council has approved the reconstruction of the office of the state owned newspaper, The Graphic, to give it a befitting look. He said council has also declared a state of emergency on the environment owing to the floods that destroyed parts of the state.
