The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has held a strategic meeting with its House of Representatives and House of Assembly aspirants as part of preparations ahead of the party’s forthcoming primaries.
The meeting, which brought together key stakeholders and aspirants across various constituencies, was aimed at strengthening internal cohesion, addressing concerns among contestants, and reinforcing unity within the party ahead of the 2026 election cycle.
Party leaders used the forum to emphasise the importance of internal democracy and adherence to party guidelines in the selection process. They also urged aspirants to remain committed to the party’s broader goal of electoral success, regardless of individual outcomes from the primaries.
Aspirants at the meeting reportedly raised concerns bordering on transparency, fairness, and the conduct of the primaries, while also seeking clarity on the procedures that would guide the selection of candidates for both the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly elections.
In response, party officials assured contestants that the APC remains committed to a credible and transparent screening and primary process, noting that all aspirants would be given equal opportunity within the framework of party rules.
The leadership further appealed for calm and cooperation among members, stressing that unity would be critical to the party’s performance in the general elections.
Political observers say such engagements have become increasingly important in managing internal tensions and reducing post-primary disputes, especially in highly competitive states like Oyo, where multiple aspirants are vying for party tickets across constituencies.
The meeting is expected to be part of a broader consultation process as the APC continues its preparations for upcoming electoral activities in the state.
