The government of Oyo state has decided to use concrete pavement on a section of Zion Plaza-Olusoji road in Ibadan. The Chairman of the State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA), Mr Busoye Ogunlade, revealed this during an inspection of the road in Ibadan. This road connects the Alao-Akala expressway from Oluyole Estate in the state capital.
The decision to use reinforced concrete technology on the 1.45m section of the road was made after flood damage to the asphalt overlay. This choice aims to eliminate pavement failures caused by floods and years of neglect on the road.
The chairman noted that concrete pavement has been successfully used in many states and has a lifespan of 50 years compared to asphalt roads, which typically last for 15 years. He assured motorists and other road users that the concrete overlay would provide a permanent solution to the road’s challenges.
