Oyo govt donates N10m, gov gives N1m for 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day

Oyo State Governor, ’Seyi Makinde, yesterday, donated N10 million on behalf of the state government and a personal donation of N1 million to support the appeal fundraising for the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.

The governor also pledged that his administration would continue to support the welfare of the serving and retired soldiers for their sacrifice and steadfastness in keeping the country safe and secure.

Makinde, who hosted relevant stakeholders at the launch of the emblem of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, appreciated members of the Nigerian Legion, Oyo State council and the serving military personnel for paying supreme price in achieving the peace of the nation, saying that in spite of the challenges facing the nation, they have remained steadfast in keeping it safe.

The governor, while promising to donate an operational vehicle to the legion, also pledged to increase each council’s legion office monthly subvention from N100,000 to N200,000 in support of their activities, and additional N500,000 for the legion’s state office through the security section of the state government.

Earlier, Oyo State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Julius Ogunkojo, said that the main focus of the programme was to raise fund to cater for the veterans who are still alive but incapacitated, the children and widows of the departed heroes.
