The popular market was razed by fire on Wednesday, with over 1,000 shops burnt.

The state government stated this during a critical meeting held with the leaders of the market at the secretariat office.

The market leaders called on the government to investigate the demolition and inferno, which razed millions of goods and property.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, Governor Seyi Makinde lauded the traders, noting that the government empathized with them, as the fire, which was never expected, undoubtedly brought losses to the market.

Makinde disclosed that the government had put in place machinery to investigate, enumerate the extent of the destruction, and bring relief to the affected victims as soon as possible.

He called on the traders to remain lawful in their business activities, assuring them of maximum security over lives and property in the market.
