The Oyo State government has approved a ₦80,000 minimum wage for its workers.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, the Technical Committee set up by the State government recommended and got approval from Governor Seyi Makinde for the implementation of the new salary scale.

The new pay would be implemented once consequential adjustments are completed by the committee.

Oyelade recalled that only last month, a Federal Government agency, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in its latest employment statistics published for 2024, rated Oyo as the most worker-friendly state in the South, owing to a significant decline in the unemployment rate.

The commissioner also stressed that the state has paid its workers salaries on the 25th of every month since Makinde assumed office in 2019.

The government also reported a significant achievement in its 2024 budget with a 64.4 per cent performance rate in recurrent expenditure for the period spanning January to September.

The Commissioner for Budget and Physical Planning, Professor Musibau Babatunde, made the disclosure yesterday during a press conference after a State Executive Council (SEC) meeting presided over by Governor Seyi Makinde.
