The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its withdrawal from participating in today’s ‪council election in the state.

The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its withdrawal from participating in today’s ‪council election in the state.

PDP state Chairman, Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha, who disclosed this yesterday, directed its members to distance themselves from the election, the outcome of which he predicted to be an effort in futility.

Mustapha, in a statement through the Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Akeem Olatunji, declared: “The purported local government election, from all indications, has failed integrity test and a complete mockery of democracy due to the undemocratic remarks of OYSIEC chairman on a radio programme that he is not bound to obey court order as regards the conduct of the election.

“It is against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a state electoral body to delineate wards, which is the statutory responsibility of Boundary Adjustment Commission (BAC), in conjunction with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), regarding electoral procedure.

“It will, therefore, amounted to legalising an illegality if PDP should participate in the sham election. PDP, as a party, will never circumvent the constitution, because it will lay a bad precedence.

“To the good people of Oyo State and even majority of APC leaders, apart from Governor Abiola Ajimobi faction of the party, know quite well that the foundation of the election is being erected on sand and cannot stand the test of time.”
