Oyo State records 10 more confirmed COVID-19 cases


• Eight from iSON Xperiences, two from Ibadan North council
• Gunmen invade Ibadan community, kill three villagers

Oyo State Government yesterday said that it had recorded 10 more confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to 292.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who is the head of the state’s COVID-19 taskforce, disclosed this yesterday.


According to him, two cases are from iSON Xperiences and the other two cases are from Ibadan North Local Council.

Makinde had while marking his first anniversary in the office said the state would do all within its powers to contain the spread of the virus.

He lamented how iSon Xperiences messed up the state in its COVID-19 fight.

In another development, some gunmen stormed three villages in Akinyele and killed no fewer than three persons at the weekend.


The incident occurred when the residents were still sleeping.

The victims, who reportedly lost their lives, included Ope Babalola from Babalola Village, Waheed Ganiyu from Oniganna Village and Yemi Sunday Osuolale from Eguntola village.

A resident told The Guardian: “In the early hours of yesterday morning, the Bororo Fulani herders raided Ikereku, Pade, Olanla and Babalola villages. They succeeded in killing our people on their various farm locations.

“By evening, we arrested four of them and they had since been handed over to Moniya Divisional Police Station.”

While confirming the incident, the lawmaker representing Akinyele Constituency I, Fadeyi Muhammed, urged security agencies in the state to ensure the culprits were brought to book.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Oyo State Command, Olugbenga Fadeyi, who also confirmed the incident, said: “Some hoodlums stormed two villages in Akinyele Local Council. There was a distress call at Moniya Police Station and the police tactical team has arrested two suspects. The police team is currently in the area. There are about eight gunmen that stormed the areas and the villagers called the police.”
