Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has called on institutions and private sector to sustain privacy of citizens as it relates to data. He warned that government would not only interrogate, but also investigate and sanction erring agencies.

Speaking at the first anniversary of Nigeria Data Protection Bureau and award night, Pantami stated that the current administration introduced the Bureau to ensure data privacy of citizens and legal residents.

He observed that the Data Protection Bill is a significant milestone in the Nigeria’s journey to attaining 100 per cent compliance with information protection.

His words: “I consider myself as founder of the Nigerian Data Protection Bureau. Historically, it commenced in December 2019 when I signed the subsidiary legislation after which the implementation commenced.”

The President approved establishment of the Bureau with the appointment of Vincent Olatunji as pioneer CEO. Our priority is to ensure compliance before anything. Let us become ambassadors of Nigeria Data Protection Bill, policy and regulation.”
