The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have resorted to gathering fake news against its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, who briefed journalists yesterday at a press conference in Abuja, said the PDP had noted several comments and personal attacks by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, as well as other officials of the Presidency, who have been making deliberate efforts to impugn the character of Atiku Abubakar.

He said: “Since the successful conduct of our presidential primary and the popular emergence of Atiku Abubakar, the Buhari Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have become intimidated; gone into panic mode and ignobly resorted to trading on rumours and spurious allegations having failed in their evil machination to scuttle our presidential primary ab initio.”

Meanwhile, former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, yesterday said the emergence of Atiku would bring sanity and development to the nation after defeating the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari in the coming 2019 elections.

Makarfi, in a congratulatory message to Atiku, said he would join hands with him and the PDP to ensure that the APC government vacates office next year after the general elections.

Besides, the Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman of PDP, Senator Valid Jibrin, who commended the conduct of the party’s primaries, said members of the BoT would soon announce an award ceremony for members of the convention committee led by the Governors of Delta and Ebonyi states.
