The Nasarawa State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kicked against concentration of the proposed grazing reserves in ravaged and crisis-prone southern senatorial zone by the state government.

The state PDP chairman, Francis Orogu, said on Friday that the locations chosen for the reserves are questionable and not suitable, due to the ongoing farmers/herdsmen crisis in the state. He said: “Almakura allocated the ongoing airport project, headquarters of primary healthcare, EFCC’s state headquarters, Federal Mortgage Housing Estate, ultra modern market and Federal Government Girls College, all to his home town in Kwandere.

“If the grazing reserve is a good development, why didn’t Almakura take it to his village? Why take it to three Alago communities and others? He said the governor takes every decent project, including good roads to his ancestral town, with the exception of the grazing reserve, which should tell any reasonable person that something must be wrong with such project.

The PDP chieftain said although he was not against establishment of grazing reserves, he was interrogating the governor’s motive and action of appropriating good things for himself, but shunning the grazing reserve. He said: “I believe Almakura knows the future consequences of locating such a project in areas that he chose. In Alago communities alone, he located three grazing reserves, yet he moved the College of Agriculture from Doma to Lafia, when he became governor.” He warned the governor to be wary of the crises that have ravaged the southern senatorial zone, so as not to create more.
