The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has filed N300 million suit against the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) for alleged irregularities in the January 16 council election.

PDP is dragging KANSIEC before Kano High Court in what is considered unlawful insertion of its logo in the ballot paper during the poll.

In the suit filed before Justice Ibrahim Karaye, the opposition party is asking the court to determine whether or not a candidate can participate in the election without being sponsored by a political party.

Led by Kano PDP chairman, Shehu Sagagi, the party’s counsel, Ibrahim Wangida, urged the court to specifically dissect Section 221 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, Section 89 of Electoral Act and Section 7 (8) of Kano State Local Government Election Law.

He told the court that KANSIEC illegally included PDP’s logo and symbol in the ballot paper without the consent of the party.
